Fulham have announced that forward Cameron Thompson has signed his first professional contract at Cravan Cottage.

According to the Fulham website, the 18-year-old put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Fulham until 2020.

The attacker has been on the books at Fulham since he was 11, and seems to be excited about the prospect of playing for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side.

Thompson stated: ““It feels good. It’s been a long time coming. I got injured half way through the season and I was out for the rest of it, but it feels good to get back on my feet and sign this contract.

“I can now concentrate on hitting the ground running in pre-season.”

The youngster started the year in the Under-18 side, scoring nine goals in their first opening nine matches.

His form was rewarded with a call up to the Under-23 squad, where he has gone on to score twice.

Thompson added: “I started this season with a hat trick against Arsenal, I felt good. From there I felt I was going to have a good season and scored a few goals. I made my debut for the Under-23s and got a few appearances and netted twice.

“I’ve been at the Club since 2011, I’ve had my highs and lows at this Club, but at the end of the day I’m here signing my pro contract. I’m grateful for that and I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Fulham face Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final this Saturday, with a place in the Premier League up for grabs, after the Cottagers came from a goal behind to beat Derby County 2-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

The Verdict

Cameron Thompson has everything it takes to make it in the first team at Fulham, and following on from the rise of young talent at Cravan Cottage like Ryan Sessegnon, it will give him confidence going into next season.

With a real eye for goal and a habit of scoring, he would be beneficial in any team in any league.

The 18-year-old will be looking on as his side play in the play-off final this weekend, and will be hoping he can be a part of a Premier League team next season, even if he might not get first team football any time soon.
