The 24-year-old made the switch to Craven Cottage on a four-year deal, contracting him to Fulham until the summer of 2019.

And after making 80 appearances for Rovers, he has admitted that the move came as "a little bit of a surprise".

Speaking to Get West London, the young midfielder has revealed that he is hoping to excel at the London club but still hopes Blackburn Rovers can improve after their poor start to the season.

He said: "It's not been the best start, but I don't worry about [Blackburn] and I think they'll be fine. They've kept Jordan Rhodes which is massive, and I think they've still got a good back-four."

He clearly means no disrespect to Blackburn despite his shock move to Craven Cottage. And after making the transfer for £2.8 million, he will surely be hoping to make a name for himself as Fulham aim for promotion back to the Premier League.

Speaking about the way the move came about, he stated: "I'd heard little bits about it towards the end of last season but it was still a little bit of a surprise.

"I suppose the big moves drag out a little bit because you're talking about extortionate amounts of money but mine went through quite quickly."

Now that Cairney is settled at Fulham however, he will be looking forward to the game against his former club on Sunday, where Fulham host Blackburn for the first time since Cairney's move.

Hoping to play in the Premier League in the near future and hoping to make a name for himself in the senior Scotland international set-up, Cairney will be hoping to impress against his former club despite his respect for their squad.
