The race for Blackburn Rovers forward Ben Brereton Diaz continues on transfer deadline day, with a second, improved bid from Fulham rejected for the 23-year-old, The Athletic have reported.

The Cottagers, after reportedly being interested earlier in the summer, submitted an initial bid to the Blackburn hierarchy not long after he netted the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Blackpool on Wednesday evening.

That offer was rejected, with doubts as to whether Marco Silva's side would come in with a fresh bid on the final day of the window for the Chile international's services.

They have done just that though, and the response has been the same once again from Ewood Park, with this particular approached 'immediately turned down'.

Brereton Diaz netted 22 times in the Championship for Rovers last season as they finished outside of the play-off spots in the second tier, and has already gotten off to a positive start in the current campaign with three goals in seven outings.

And whilst he has less than one year remaining on his contract at Blackburn, the Lancashire side are unwilling to part with the versatile striker unless the price is right.

The Verdict

Brereton Diaz has been the subject of much transfer interest all summer, and it would be a real blow to Blackburn if he were to leave this late in the day.

Jon Dahl Tomasson has never ruled out cashing in on the Chilean though, but clearly the price that Fulham are offering isn't good enough.

It could trigger a bidding war before the deadline though, but those interested parties cannot try to low-ball Rovers at this stage as they will get nowhere.

If those bids keep on coming and they do not match what Blackburn want, then there's every chance that Brereton Diaz remains at Ewood Park for another few months at the very least.
