Fulham have approached Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett about their vacant head coach position, a club insider from Birmingham has informed Football League World.

The Cottagers have been on the lookout for a new manager since they parted company with Kit Symons at the start of November, with a number of coaches linked with the role.

Reading manager Steve Clarke looked set to takeover but he did a last-minute u-turn and chose to stay with the Royals, while moves for Nigel Pearson, Uwe Rosler and Paul Lambert have failed to materialise.

Fulham owner Shahid Khan has now identified the Birmingham manager as his favoured target and he has made an approach for the 41-year old, however it is uncertain how Birmingham will respond to the approach.

The Craven Cottage side currently sit 12th in the Championship after winning five of their opening seventeen league games but Khan will be hoping that Rowett will join the club and mount a promotion push.
