Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has confirmed that Fulham are in talks to sign Joe Bennett, Wales Online is reporting.
Fulham have been in the market for a new left back since the departure of Scott Malone, who joined Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town earlier this summer.
While Ryan Sessegnon can play there, Fulham have often deployed him as a winger and they are looking for strength in depth at left back.
After suffering frustration in their pursuit of Bordeaux defender Maxime Poundje, Fulham have now turned their attention to Cardiff full back Joe Bennett.
The 27-year-old joined Cardiff last summer after spells with Middlesbrough and Aston Villa earlier in his career.
Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock confirmed that Fulham have opened talks to sign Bennett and that the former England under-21 international has a buy-out clause which could be activated.
However, he added that the reason that Bennett was omitted from last night’s win over Sheffield United was due to a minor calf injury rather than Fulham’s interest.
“I’ve spoken to him tonight and they are talking to our people.
“I’m not aware of anything definite, but I think he has a buy-out clause in his contract so it’s up to them to meet it, and if they do they’re entitled to talk to him.
“It doesn’t mean he’s going anywhere, mind.”
Joe Bennett enjoyed arguably his best season to date last year at Cardiff City.
Whether he wants to move away already remains to be seen but Fulham have a vacancy at left back and he might be tempted to join Slavisa Jokanovic’s highly ambitious side.
If Bennett does leave, Cardiff will have to scour the market for a replacement and could revisit a deal for Preston’s Greg Cunningham.
