Fulham are keen on doing a deal for former loanee Matt Targett, although it would require a big fee to prise him from Southampton.

That's according to the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (12:08), who claim that Scott Parker wants to bring the 23-year-old back to Craven Cottage.

Targett enjoyed a very productive loan spell with the Londoners back in January 2018, with his arrival mid-season crucial in helping Slavisa Jokanovic's side winning promotion to the Premier League.

However, a deal to bring him to the club on a permanent basis couldn't be reached and the left-back returned to Southampton for the previous campaign.

He managed 16 games for the Saints, although he is clearly behind Ryan Bertrand in the pecking order under Ralph Hasenhüttl.

Despite that, the report states that only a 'significant' offer would encourage the top-flight side to enter discussions with the Cottagers.

Whether that can be done remains to be seen, with Fulham surely going to need to sell several first-team players before they can make their own moves in the market.

The Verdict

Bringing in Targett would be a huge coup for Fulham as he would be a top, top Championship player - as he proved in his previous spell for the club.

Whether it's financially possible at this time remains to be seen as you would imagine the Cottagers immediate priority is to shift players from what is a bloated squad.

From the players' perspective, he should try and push for a move as he needs to be playing regularly and that's not going to happen whilst Bertrand remains at Southampton.
