Fulham are on the hunt for new faces to help them in the Premier League next season – and one name that has cropped up is Nemanja Matic, with the Cottagers in talks over a deal as reported by Jonathan Shrager.
The club have sealed a spot back in the top flight ahead of next season, with the team storming to the Championship title and looking like they could have a real shot at staying in the Premier League beyond the next campaign.
However, Marco Silva is aware this his team may need to recruit well this summer and perhaps bring in some experienced faces to help them adapt to top tier football and allow them to compete.

One such name that appears to be on their radar is a transfer target – and would certainly fit this bill – is Nemanja Matic. The midfielder is set to be available on a free transfer, with Man United ready to let him leave the club after five years of service.
For a player such as Matic – who has competed at a top level since 2009 and his move to Chelsea – to make the move to Fulham could be a huge boost.
However, it won’t be easy for the Cottagers to seal a deal for his signature, with several other clubs keen to bring the player in according to Jonathan Shrager. Benfica would quite like a reunion with the player and Juventus are also believed to be in talks with the midfielder – and a move to the top of the Serie A table may appeal more to the 33-year-old.
Fulham though are at least in the reckoning – and if they could pull a deal off, it could be a coup for the club.
Nemanja Matic might be into his thirties now and in the back end of his career but his mere presence in the side could really help the club back in the Premier League.
He might not be the same player he once was and there could be younger, more exciting options out there. However, considering the potential value of the deal – minus his wages, there would be no transfer fee involved as he is out of contract – and it is hard to pass up the opportunity to bring him in.
If he plays on a regular basis, he could also be a real asset to Marco Silva’s side. He has pretty much been there and done that in the Premier League over the course of his career so far and the interest in him from other European outfits shows how highly he is still regarded.
If Fulham could bring him into their squad, then it could go a long way towards helping them stay in the top flight then for a lot longer than just a solitary campaign.
