Fulham have made a €4.5m bid to Besiktas for right-back Gokhan Gonul as they look to bring in a replacement for Ryan Fredericks.

Fredericks is poised to join West Ham on a free transfer which will be a bitter blow for Slavisa Jokanovic as the former Tottenham man had been key in the Cottagers promotion campaign.

However, according to Turkish Football, the London club are lining up a move for Gonul, who has 65 caps for Turkey and currently plays for Besiktas.

The 33-year old previously played for nine years at Fenerbahce and has won three league titles in his time as a player in the Turkish top-flight.

The report states that Besiktas are open to selling Gonul as they are hoping to bring in right-back Daniel Opare.

Although they still hold the power when it comes to Gonul, with the experienced player still having two years left on his contract with the Istanbul club.

Should he move to the capital he would be competing with Cyrus Christie for the right-back position in the team.

The Verdict

Fulham need a right-back with Fredericks closing in on a move to West Ham and Gonul would probably do a job for the next year.

His age is a concern, but he is an attack-minded player and comfortable on the ball so should fit in with Jokanovic's style.

Additionally, he has a lot of experience, has won trophies and it would good to add that to the squad for Fulham.
