Fulham defender Tim Ream told the club's official website that he was frustrated after the Championship side went out of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night following a 1-0 defeat to Premier League side Stoke City.

The 27-year-old was eager to to take positives from the game in which Fulham had plenty of chances, but a first-half goal from Peter Crouch on only his second start of the season for Stoke, was enough to get the Potters a victory.

A second-half onslaught from Fulham meant a nervy finish for Stoke, but it is the Premier League side who will host holders Chelsea in the fourth round tie.

“It’s obviously not the result we wanted,” Ream admitted. “There was a little bit of luck for them on the goal, with the tackle coming in and the ball rolling right to Crouch.

“Second half we really wanted to take it to them and really create a lot of chances and go forward as much as possible. I thought we did that for the most part, and with all the chances late on you would have thought at least one of them would have gone in, but that’s the way it goes and it wasn’t to be.”

Asked if the performance gives Fulham a boost ahead of the West London derby against Queens Park Rangers on Friday, the USA international replied: “Absolutely. They’ve come down from the Premier League so they were right there with Stoke last year, so to play as well as we did – especially in the second half – and create as many chances as we did, it definitely gives you a lot of confidence going into Friday.

“It’s obviously a big derby and something that all the boys are really looking forward to, and something that we really have to wrap our heads around.

Fulham host West London rivals QPR in their Championship clash tomorrow night, with Fulham looking to climb the table after a mixed start to the season which sees them sitting in 16th.

Meanwhile, QPR will hope current Championship top scorer Charlie Austin can fire them to another victory to build upon their ninth placed standing.
