It is 'likely' that Levante defender Chema will join Fulham in the current transfer window, Spanish outlet El Desmarque have reported.

A 27-year-old centre back who can also play at right-back, Chema is said to have received an offer from Fulham to move to Craven Cottage, and it is expected that the Spaniard will make the move to London before the window closes in little over two weeks.

That is in part due to what is described as a 'complicated' situation for Chema at Levante, where the defender is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

Up until now Chema has spent the entirety of his career in his native Spain, and has made 81 appearances in all competitions for Levante since joining from Alcorcon in the summer of 2016, helping them win promotion to La Liga during his debut season with the club, who are now about to enter their third straight season in the Spanish top flight.

Fulham have so far made two senior signings in the summer transfer window, with wingers Ivan Cavaleiro and Anthony Knockaert both joining on season-long loans from Wolves and Brighton respectively.

The Verdict

This is a big boost for Fulham.

The Cottagers look somewhat short on defensive options right now, so bringing in a player like Chema would be a welcome addition to the club.

As someone who has experience in both winning promotion, and then helping his side survive in the top tier, Chema does seem to be a player with the sort of pedigree that Fulham would want, and his versatility will only enhance his appeal to the London club.

With just a year left on his contract, Levante may be willing to sell for less than they otherwise would do, so this could be a financially smart move for Fulham as well.
