Fulham have announced on Twitter that young midfielder Luca de la Torre has signed a contract extension which ties him to the club until the summer of 2020.

The 19-year-old American youth international put pen to paper on a new deal, and looks set for a bright future at the club.

De la Torre made his debut for the Cottagers in a League Cup tie at Leyton Orient last year, but is yet to make a Championship appearance so far.

Born in San Diego, de la torre joined the youth team set-up at Craven Cottage in 2013 as a 15-year-old, and has impressed at various youth levels.

The player made a massive 28 appearances for the USA U17 side from 2013-2015, and will look to be included in manager Bruce Arena’s squad once he forces his way into Slavisa Jokanovic’s first team in west London.

The Verdict: Such a long-term deal suggests that the club hold the youth international in extremely high regard, and the player appears to be a part of Jokanovic’s plans in the near future.

With such impressive international experience already under his belt with America’s youth teams, de la torre appears to have a bright future in the game, and fans will be eager to see the player make his league debut.

The youngster should be afforded opportunities this season if he continues to work hard in the reserves and youth teams, and could become a regular squad member at Craven Cottage very soon.

Fulham fans, would you like to see de la torre given more first team opportunities?
