Championship duo Fulham and Leeds United are set to rival Premier League club Newcastle United for the signature of French youngster Harold Voyer, according to Foot Mercato.
The 20-year-old defender has come up through the academy at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain but has failed to make a first team appearance for the club, a club which saw their four-year reign as champions come to an end last season at the hands of Monaco.
However, Voyer has seen his contract at the Parc des Princes come to an end this summer, and his availability has reportedly alerted Championship duo Fulham and Leeds, as well as Rafa Benitez’s Premier League-bound Newcastle.
The Magpies will be returning to the top tier in August after clinching the Championship title last time out, and have the added incentive of Premier League football to offer the young defender in a bid to lure him to St James’ Park.
However, both Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham and Thomas Christiansen’s Leeds will be hoping to battle for promotion from the second tier next season, and may even be able to offer Voyer more first team opportunities given the lower level and long, hard slog that a Championship campaign often is.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether any of aforementioned trio are able to persuade Voyer to move to England this summer, but what is clear is that his time at PSG is at an end, and this next career move is crucial in aiding in his development.
