With the end of the season approaching, the EFL have announced the three players that will be up for the Championship Player of the Year award.

Fulham duo Ryan Sessegnon and Tom Cairney, along with Wolves' Ruben Neves are the three players who were nominated by the managers across the Football League, whilst the trio were also in the team of the season.

The inclusion of Neves is fairly obvious given the impact he has had on Wolves this season. The Portuguese midfielder has had a superb first season in English football and his ability on the ball has been crucial to the league leaders.

Similarly, Sessegnon has established himself as one of the most exciting players outside the Premier League and has 14 league goals to his name already in this campaign.

Meanwhile, even though Cottagers teammate Cairney endured a tough start to the season, he has produced consistently in the past few months and it's no coincidence that Fulham's long unbeaten run has come with their key midfielder back to his best.

The winner will be announced on April 15.

The Verdict

You certainly can't argue with Sessegnon and Neves earning a place on the three-man shortlist, with the pair having truly outstanding seasons so far.

Whilst Cairney has been superb as well, his struggles with form and fitness earlier in the campaign make his inclusion debatable but there's no doubt he's one of the best players in the league on his day.

The main focus for all three will be getting their team promotion but there's no doubt that they will want the recognition for their hard work that this award brings.
