Aston Villa have been chasing Leicester City's Leonardo Ulloa for the last three transfer windows and their pursuit of the striker looks set to go down to the wire this January, as per the Birmingham Mail.

Leicester have five strikers on their books - Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho, Shinji Okazaki, Islam Slimani and Ulloa - and only wish to offload one this January.

Former Porto man Slimani has also attracted interest and could be sold. Therefore, the Foxes are going to hold out and wait to see if a suitable bid comes in for the Algerian before making any decision on Ulloa's future.

That means that Villa will have to sweat on any potential deal, without the funds to make a permanent transfer bid for the former Brighton hitman and a long, protracted transfer saga looks on the cards.

The Verdict

If I was Steve Bruce, I would only take Ulloa as a plan B to throw on when things get desperate.

However, he seems keen on the Leicester man and will be frustrated that he is at the back of the queue to get a deal done.
