There has been no progress concerning the American party linked with a prospective Derby County takeover, according to journalist Alan Nixon

While Wayne Rooney has turned things around on the pitch for the Rams, there remains uncertainty surrounding a potential takeover.

Last month Mel Morris suggested that Sheikh Khaled's takeover, which has appeared close but been continuously delayed since November, was still live.

Amid the ongoing delays to that deal, it emerged in February that an American party was interested in a takeover of their own and had been shown around the East Midlands club's facilities.

Their interest was reiterated last week but it appears anything further is yet to materialise.

Nixon has reported that there has been no progress concerning the American party's prospective takeover, suggesting that the group – who are still yet to be identified – "sound like tyre kickers".

Rooney highlighted the importance of the club's recruitment over the next 12 to 18 months recently and you feel a takeover may be necessary for the Derby boss to continue to try and take them forward.

The Verdict

This will likely be a frustrating update for Rams fans as it raises questions over the American party linked with a potential takeover.

Nixon seems to be suggesting they were just scoping the club out rather than harbouring serious ambitions of a takeover and the lack of recent action would seem to back that up.

The continued delays have meant the situation is hanging over the club and it could hold back their progress if it's not sorted by the summer.

At this stage, it's hard to argue that it will be.
