Leeds United could be forced to wait to sign goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a permanent deal until the end of August according to Football Insider

The report claims that the Whites were keen to make Meslier's loan move a permanent one as soon as the summer transfer window opened in June.

But it is also claimed by Football Insider that the FA might not allow the transfer window to open until this year's league campaign has been completed.

Due to recent off-the-field events, Leeds have been forced to put their bid for promotion into the Premier League on hold for the time being.

The Whites are currently sat top of the Championship table, and are seven points clear of third-placed Fulham with just nine games remaining this season.

Meslier has played his part in their recent upturn in form, with the shot-stopper coming into the starting XI in place of the suspended Kiko Casilla.

Meslier has kept two clean sheets in Leeds' last two games, and he'll be hoping he can play his part as Leeds edge closer to a long-awaited promotion back into the Premier League this term.

The Verdict:

This is a frustrating update for Leeds.

Meslier has impressed me since he's come into the starting XI for Leeds, and I think he has the potential to be their first-choice goalkeeper in future seasons under the management of Marcelo Bielsa.

It's understandable that the FA aren't keen to open the transfer window in June as originally planned though, as this could disrupt some teams' preparations heading towards the conclusion of this year's campaign.

They'll have to remain patient for now in their pursuit of a permanent deal for Meslier, but they shouldn't be concerned over any other team coming in for the young Frenchman, as he seems to be loving life at Elland Road.
