Leeds United have reportedly cooled their interest in Matej Vydra, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Vydra has been a target of the Whites since May, but a rapid increase in the striker's personal demands has apparently put them off for now.

Early discussions with the player were encouraging, according to the Evening Post, and they were willing to offer the striker up to £30,000-a-week to move to Elland Road.

Although the clubs were yet to agree on a fee for the Czech it was likely that Leeds would have met Derby's £11million valuation, but this latest twist has put the whole move on hold.

It is not a twist that will please Derby County either.

Financial pressures at Pride Park mean that Frank Lampard will have to get rid of some of the club's higher earners, and getting rid of Vydra would have been a big weight off despite his 22 league goals last season.

It is the latest disappointment in the summer transfer window for Leeds fans after deals to sign goalkeeper David Stockdale and former Hull City striker Abel Hernandez both hit dead ends as well.

The verdict

This should be a big worry for Leeds United fans.

With less than a month to go until the transfer window shuts they seem incapable of closing deals for new arrivals.

It is fair enough them being put off by Vydra's wages, but they must move on to their other options quickly if Bielsa is going to be able to assemble a squad that can challenge for promotion.
