Leeds United are still showing interest in signing Derby County’s talisman Matej Vydra, but the striker is holding out for a Premier League move.

According to The Sun, Leeds are still keen on signing last season’s Championship top goal scorer, but the destination of Vydra is still unknown.

The 26-year-old is believed to be waiting to confirm a move away from Pride Park, to see if any sides from England’s top flight come in for the £11m rated forward.

Leeds, who are now under the reign of new manager Marcelo Bielsa, are looking to add fire power to their attacking line up as they edge towards the start of the new season.

The Lilywhites will face competition from the likes of fellow Championship club West Brom to sign the Czech Republic international, who are also said to be keeping an eye on Vydra.

New Derby County manager Frank Lampard did give hope to the Rams faithful, with his comments last week on the future of the prolific Championship goal scorer.

He stated: “There is a lot of speculation but he is still our player.

“We will see, but while he performs as well as he did last year, with the level of goals, I expect him to stay.”

The Verdict

The ex-Watford striker has proven he has what it takes to score goals in the Championship, making him a strong signing for Leeds United.

You do feel however that it is a sideways, if not backwards, step for Vydra who has experience playing at the highest of levels.

Wherever the young forward ends up, there is no doubt that he will continue playing he free firing football and score plenty of goals.
