Aston Villa defender Mitch Clark has been hit with a hamstring injury that will keep the youngster out for three weeks.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan at League Two Port Vale, where he has impressed, playing 17 games for the side so far this season.

Capable of playing in either full-back role or as a wing-back, Clark has been one of few positives for a Vale side that are currently 17th in the fourth-tier.

Clark managed just 45 minutes before he was forced off on Saturday, as the side fell to a 1-0 loss at home to Swindon.

And, Vale assistant Lee Nogan confirmed the extent of the injury when speaking to Birmingham Live.

"He has a grade one tear. We have got the message from Villa this morning that he will be out for three weeks.

"But we just hope the lad gets back as quickly as possible."

Providing that is an accurate estimation, Clark is likely to miss four Vale games and will be targeting the fixture against struggling Macclesfield Town for his return on 22 December.

It is believed that Villa are able to recall the defender in January if they choose to send him elsewhere for the second half of the season.

The Verdict

This is a blow for Clark who will have enjoyed playing regularly and testing himself at a very competitive level.

Port Vale will also be disappointed as he has been a bright player for them this season but it does give others a chance to step up.

As for the player, he just needs to concentrate on his recovery and he will hope to feature over the very busy Christmas period.
