Nottingham Forest fans finally had something to cheer on Saturday as two late goals managed to secure Aitor Karanka's men a 2-1 win against Ipswich Town.

The Reds had failed to score for six games in a row heading into the fixture and that terrible drought looked as though it would continue.

It's been a tough few months for Forest, with many just waiting for the season to end, so that the summer rebuild can begin.

Karanka has already made major changes at the City Ground with several January arrivals to boost the squad, however further changes are anticipated.

The former Middlesbrough boss knows what it takes to get a side promoted from the Championship and will be eager to bring in players capable of doing that.

Here we look at three signings that could make a big difference...

A key reason for Boro's promotion under Karanka was a solid defence and Ayala was key to that.

The Spaniard is a firm favourite under Tony Pulis however he may welcome the chance to be reunited with his former boss and for a new challenge.

If Forest could make that happen it would be a major signing. Not only is he an excellent defender, he is also a leader and has the mentality that Karanka is looking for.

As mentioned, Forest's goalscoring has been abysmal under Karanka and whilst the strikers aren't totally to blame, it's clear they need at least two players in that position this summer.

One option would be Lee Gregory who has shown he is capable for Millwall this season.

He scores goals, having already hit double figures this season but is a great all-round striker too, with a real work ethic and ability to hold the ball up and run channels for the team.

Even if they signed Gregory or a similar type of player, Forest need a natural finisher and Wells could be that man.

He is out of favour at Burnley and will surely look to move in the summer.

With real pace, good movement and a coolness in front of goal, he could be the man to fire Forest up near the top of the table.
