Sheffield Wednesday are unlikely to complete the signing of Cardiff City defender Aden Flint before the transfer window closes, according to the Sheffield Star.

The Owls are currently in the market for defensive reinforcements, with Garry Monk looking to strengthen the spine of his squad ahead of the remainder of the season.

Wednesday have recently been linked with the signing of Cardiff centre-half Aden Flint, as per Football Insider, with Queens Park Rangers also believed to be interested.

Quiz: Do Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United have these 10 things in common?

The 31-year-old made 30 appearances for Cardiff last season, but he is yet to make a single appearance this time around and could be set to depart South Wales before the transfer deadline.

The Sheffield Star claim that, whilst there is a genuine interest from Wednesday, the Owls are currently unlikely to complete a deal for the defender.

The Owls have brought in Chey Dunkley from Wigan Athletic this summer, but injuries to the likes of Dominic Iorfa and Tom Lees have left them relatively short of options at the back.

The Verdict

Flint would be an excellent signing for Wednesday.

He's a strong, commanding centre-half who is a major threat in both boxes, and I think his aerial presence and leadership would be key for the Owls as they look to avoid relegation to League One.

He may be getting on a bit now, but he's still physically fit and still has plenty to offer in the Championship. He'd be a top signing, and fans will be hoping that they can this one over the line.
