Everton are set to cool their interest in signing Nottingham Forest star Matty Cash, according to reports from the Express.

The 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength under Sabri Lamouchi this season, with the natural winger establishing himself as one of the best right-backs in the Championship.

The homegrown star has made 21 appearances in all competitions this term, and has been linked with moves to the Premier League after a string of impressive performances.

The Sun claimed that Everton, as well as Southampton and Crystal Palace, were interested in signing Cash for around £12m, but that potential deal looks to be dead in the water now.

Cash has recently signed a new three-and-a-half year deal at the City Ground until 2023, committing his future to the Reds as they look to win promotion to the Premier League.

The Express now claim that Everton - who were reportedly set to submit an offer for Cash in January - are set to ditch their transfer plan and look elsewhere, with a new manager set to explore other targets following Marco Silva's sacking.

Forest sit fifth in the Sky Bet Championship table after a 2-2 draw against Millwall on Friday night, and face Middlesbrough at the City Ground on Tuesday.

The Verdict

This is a massive boost for Forest, although I couldn't see Cash leaving in the first place to be honest.

Even if Silva hadn't been sacked by Everton, it would have cost a hell of a lot of money to lure him away from the City Ground after signing a brand new deal.

He is playing his best football at Forest week in, week out, and I don't think he would have been a regular starter at Everton anyway.
