West Ham are set to wait until Monday before making a decision regarding their potential purchase of Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph, according to Football Insider.

The Premier League club have reportedly agreed terms with both Randolph and Middlesbrough regarding the goalkeeper's return to the Hammers, but the deal has now been placed on hold as a result of fears relating to the player's injury.

Randolph has not featured for Boro during the last two months due to a thigh injury, and West Ham will need the 32-year-old to be available for selection immediately as a result of an injury to their first-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

It is now understood that West Ham will wait until they receive the results of Randolph's second medical before making a decision over the deal, with David Moyes' side expected to make the significant call on Monday.

Randolph has been performing with impressive consistency since making the move to Boro from West Ham in the summer of 2017, with the Republic of Ireland international having made 112 appearances for the Teesside outfit during this time.

The Verdict

It would be an interesting one if West Ham were to pull the plug on their pursuit of Randolph given Middlesbrough will have already made peace with the fact that the goalkeeper is set to leave the club.

Randolph's consistent form for Boro means he would represent a big loss for the Riverside Stadium side, but the fact substitute goalkeeper Aynsley Pears has kept three consecutive clean sheets means Boro fans might not be too concerned.

However, manager Jonathan Woodgate will face a tough decision if Randolph ends up remaining on Teesside, as the Boro boss will need to decide whether Pears or Randolph will be his first-choice goalkeeper going forward.
