Jonathan Leko is due to be interviewed by the FA today in relation to Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla's alleged racist comment on Saturday, according to The Athletic reporter Steve Madeley.

The incident allegedly occurred during Charlton's 1-0 victory over Leeds at The Valley in a match where Macauley Bonne's first-half goal condemned Marcelo Bielsa's side to their second defeat of the league season.

Bonne referred to the occurrence in his post-match interview when he stated that "one thing happened today", but he refused to disclose the nature of it until it became public knowledge in the aftermath of the game.

It is understood the match referee John Brooks included the alleged discrimination in his match report, and this has prompted the FA to launch an investigation into the claim that Casilla racially abused West Brom loanee Leko during the clash.

Madeley has now provided an update regarding the next steps in the FA's investigation:

The reporter states that the FA are due at Charlton's training ground today to speak with Leko and another Addicks player about the incident as they look to assemble further evidence in their investigation.

Leko has now made nine league appearances since joining Charlton on loan towards the end of the summer transfer window, while he scored his second goal for the club last night during their 2-1 defeat to Swansea.

The Verdict

The alleged racial discrimination of Leko has overshadowed the match which saw Charlton deliver an impressive performance to overcome Leeds, who had previously gone unbeaten away from home this season.

The exact nature of the incident is yet to be determined but it is a positive sign that the FA are seemingly taking the allegation seriously, as this sets the right precedent regarding a serious issue in the game.

It is crucial they take the strongest possible action against Casilla is the allegation is proven to be true, but they must listen to evidence from both sides to determine whether this is the correct course of action.

Both sides will be hoping the right outcome can be reached as soon as possible, with this being an issue neither team will want hanging over them in the weeks to come.
