West Bromwich Albion are reportedly willing to sell Nathan Ferguson this week instead of allowing the defender to leave for a nominal fee at the end of the season, according to the Express & Star.

The 19-year-old's existing deal at the Hawthorns runs out in the summer and he has yet to sign a new five-year-deal which has been offered to him by the Baggies.

Crystal Palace are reportedly set to table a £4m bid for Ferguson as they look to bolster their defensive options heading into the second-half of the 2019/20 campaign.

After impressing West Brom manager Slaven Bilic during pre-season, the full-back was handed his senior debut against Nottingham Forest last year in which he delivered a composed performance.

Since making his professional bow, Ferguson has emerged as a key player for the Baggies with the consistency of his performances helping the club reach the summit of the Championship standings.

Having missed the last five games due to injury, it will be intriguing to see whether the defender is brought back into West Brom's set-up for their clash with Cardiff City tonight now that he is fully-fit.

The Verdict

Although there is no doubting Ferguson's talent, the Baggies ought to consider cashing in on him this month given that he is refusing to commit his future to the club.

Whilst the England Under-20 international offers West Brom a great deal of versatility due to the fact that he is capable of playing on either side of defence, it could be argued that letting him leave may not be that big of a blow.

With Kieran Gibbs and Conor Townsend capable of operating at left-back and Darnell Furlong impressing this season at right-back, the Baggies are already well stocked in this particular area.

By selling Ferguson for a large fee, Bilic could use the money to re-invest in his squad between now and the end of the January transfer window which in turn may help his side achieve their goal of automatic promotion later this year.
