Sunderland are reportedly still trying to sign Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison and Tottenham defender Dennis Cirkin despite making slow progress so far.

It's been a quieter transfer window than expected so far for the North East club, particularly given this is the first window since Kyril Louis-Dreyfus' takeover and the first summer since Lee Johnson took charge.

The Black Cats have made just three signings so far, adding Alex Pritchard and Corry Evans on free transfers as well as signing Callum Doyle on loan from Manchester City.

Despite the slow progress that appears to have been made, however, they're still pressing ahead with moves for two targets that have been regularly linked over the past few weeks.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Sunderland remain in pursuit of both Jebbison and Cirkin.

It is understood that the latter had a medical at the North East club over the weekend ahead of a permanent move from Spurs.

Jebbison looks to be proving a slightly more difficult deal, however, with the Blades said to be considering sending the 18-year-old forward on loan to Belgian club.

The Black Cats got off to winning ways in League One on Saturday as goals from Aiden McGeady and Ross Stewart helped them beat Wigan Athletic 2-1.

The Verdict

It's not been the busy summer that many fans will have been expecting and some may have been looking jealously at the likes of Ipswich Town but it appears the Black Cats are still pursuing deals for Cirkin and Jebbison.

They've been linked with both over the past few weeks and it seems despite having made slow progress, they're still hoping to bring the pair to the Stadium of Light this summer.

The two young players could be good additions but even if both join the club, you feel Johnson will want to add a bit more quality to his squad before the summer window closes.
