The father of Bristol City talent Han-Noah Massengo has revealed that he is eager to see the midfielder remain at the club beyond the summer whether they achieve Premier League promotion or not.

Massengo has impressed in the Robins' midfield since his permanent switch from French side Monaco last summer, with the 18-year-old having registered 22 appearances for the Ashton Gate side during their promotion bid from the Championship this term.

The Frenchman was a regular feature in the starting line-up during City's strong start to the second-tier season, but Massengo has been used more sparingly over the course of the campaign as he was not even named in the squad against West Brom yesterday.

However, Massengo's father has now revealed he is keen to see his son remain at Ashton Gate for the foreseeable future, and he was keen to reinforce the "project" that Massengo is currently involved in at the Robins.

"The first thing is to stay at Bristol City and finish the season, it will be very good if they get to the Premier League," Massengo's father told Bristol Live.

"Even if they don't get to the Premier League - which is not what we wish - we'll stay because we're good here.

"We need to grow with the club, it's really important.

"We have a project here with Bristol City, they've offered us a project."

The Robins are currently sitting seventh in the Championship table following their 3-0 defeat to West Brom over the weekend, with Lee Johnson's side now three points adrift of the play-off places with 12 games remaining this term.

The Verdict

Both Massengo and City can be pleased with how things have worked out this campaign, with Massengo having shown clear signs of development by playing regular football for the Robins, while the club will know they have some player on their hands.

The fact Massengo is only 18 years old also bodes extremely well for his future prospects, and it will come as a considerable boost that the midfielder appears keen to continue the early stages of his senior development with the Ashton Gate outfit.

The Frenchman's evident quality means he would be a strong option for Johnson in either the Championship or Premier League next term, and there is every chance he could be a real asset for the club in just a small number of years.
