Rangers' long-term interest in signing Preston North End midfielder seemingly won't go away anytime soon.

It had previously been reported by Football Insider that the Scottish giants saw a bid of £2million rejected by the Championship club, who were keen to stand their ground in their £4million valuation of the midfielder.

Johnson caught the eye with a number of impressive performances for Alex Neill's side last season, having chipped in with 12 goals and eight assists in his 34 appearances in all competitions.

His efforts weren't quite enough though, as Preston finished ninth in the second-tier standings, after previously being within touching distance of a top-six finish in the 2019/20 campaign.

It is now claimed by Football Insider that Preston's coaches aren't happy with how Johnson has reportedly 'had his head turned' by Rangers' interest in landing his signature, with North End facing a battle to get him back to his best.

Johnson has made two appearances for Preston this season, and scored their opener against QPR in a win over Mark Warburton's side on Wednesday evening.

Preston are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on Huddersfield Town, in what could potentially be a tricky test against Carlos Corberan's side at the John Smith's Stadium.

The Verdict:

Surely he'll be wanting to get back to his best?

Johnson clearly had his head turned amid interest from Rangers, having been left out of the Preston squad earlier in the 2020/21 season.

Rangers are a club that are playing in European competitions, and are heading in the right direction under the management of Steven Gerrard, so you couldn't blame Johnson for potentially having an eye on a move to Ibrox in the future.

It'll be an interesting few months ahead though, and it wouldn't come as a surprise to see Rangers step-up their interest in agreeing a deal for Johnson, especially if his head has been turned.
