Crystal Palace have stepped up their pursuit of Brentford winger Said Benrahma as they look to get a deal done before the transfer window closes, according to Lyall Thomas from Sky Sports

The Algerian has been linked with a string of Premier League clubs this summer – including the likes of Aston Villa, Palace, Leeds United, and West Ham United – and seemed likely to leave after the Bees failed to secure promotion last term.

However, he remains a Brentford player for the time being and after missing the first few weeks of the season has returned to Thomas Frank's side recently.

Benrahma proved the star man as the Bees knocked west London rivals Fulham out of the Carabao Cup last night and a fresh update on a potential move has emerged this morning.

Thomas has reported that Palace have stepped up their pursuit of the 25-year-old as we move towards the end of the transfer window.

Previous reports have indicated that it would take £25 million to prize the winger away from Brentford, having proven a key attacking weapon in the last two seasons.

Since arriving from Nice for a nominal fee in 2018, Benrahma has fired in 30 goals and provided 27 assists for the west London club.

Do you remember which club Brentford signed these 15 players from?

The Verdict

Keeping Benrahma always looked likely to be difficult but given a move hasn't yet materialised and he's returned to the side, fans could be forgiven for feeling they may hold onto him.

As we near the end of the window, it appears Palace are set to make a late push for him in what would, without doubt, be a blow to Brentford's promotion hopes.

We've seen them get past the sales of key men on multiple occasions in recent years but losing the 25-year-old this late would be frustrating. That said, it would be a significant financial boost for the Bees.
