Leeds United are set to make a fresh bid for Southampton striker Che Adams this weekend, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

It was reported earlier this week that Leeds had seen a third loan offer for the attacker - with the option to buy for £20million in the summer if they are promoted to the Premier League this season - rejected by Southampton.

Despite that, it seems the chances of a move to Elland Road are still not over, after it was claimed that Southampton will make a final decision on Adams' future this weekend, something which appears to have given Leeds fresh hope of completing this signing.

According to the latest reports, Leeds are set to make another offer to Southampton this weekend, as they look to add a fresh attacking threat to their ranks for the second half of the season.

It is thought that Southampton's interest in other transfer targets such as Tottenham's Kyle Walker-Peters and QPR's Bright Osayi-Samuel have given Leeds confidence they may be able to pull off a deal for Adams, with this latest offer again said to total around £20million.

Adams has yet to score in 21 appearances in all competitions for Southampton since joining from Birmingham City for a reported £15million last summer.

The Verdict

I'm slightly surprised by this.

While there recent loss of form and struggles in front of goal mean there can be no doubt that Leeds need an attacker in this window, the nature of this deal feels slightly risky to me.

Although Adams is well proven at Championship level, he has hardly made any impact in the Premier League for Southampton, meaning spending such a significant fee on him should they get promoted, could hamper their hopes of strengthening in other areas of the pitch upon their return to the top-flight.

As a result, it could be argued that Leeds could be better off ending their interest here, in favour of pursuing other options who may well offer better prospects for them with regards to their long term aim of a return to the Premier League.
