Barnsley forward Mamadou Thiam's potential move to Scottish side Hearts could be back on according to a claim from the Daily Record.

The report claims that Daniel Stendel's side are working on a potential loan deal for the striker, who has struggled for game time this season in the Championship.

In total, the 24-year-old has made nine appearances for the Tykes in all competitions, so it wouldn't come as a surprise to see him heading for the exit door at Oakwell.

Thiam has fallen down the pecking order in the Barnsley squad recently, with the likes of Cauley Woodrow, Connor Chaplin and Jacob Brown are ahead of him in Gerhard Struber's plans at this moment in time.

Hearts had previously made an enquiry for Thiam earlier in this month's transfer window, but their approach was knocked back by the Championship side.

Thiam is also out of contract with Barnsley at the end of this season, so he is likely to have his eye on a move elsewhere in the near future.

The striker has scored eight goals in his 92 appearances since he arrived from French side Dijon in the summer of 2017.

It could be a somewhat frantic end to Deadline Day for Barnsley, and the club's supporters will be hoping that they can keep hold of some of their key players to help aid their fight against relegation this term.

The Tykes are currently sat 23rd in the Championship table, and are six points adrift of safety with 17 games remaining of this year's campaign.

The Verdict:

I wouldn't be surprised to see Thiam leave the club before we reach the conclusion of the January transfer window.

He hasn't featured much in this year's campaign for Barnsley, and I would be surprised if he was still with Gerhard Struber's men in the near future.

Thiam has previously worked under Stendel's management when he was in charge of the Yorkshire-based side, so it's clear to see that he's keen to sign his former striker.

It's a deal that makes sense for both parties involved, and it'll be interesting to see if Barnsley are keen to sanction a loan move late into the transfer window.
