Fresh twist emerges regarding Huddersfield Town-linked man’s future

Published

on

Huddersfield Town target Jesse Debrah has had his contract extended by Halifax Town.

As confirmed by the Shaymen’s official Twitter account, Debrah is no longer set to become a free-agent this summer after the club opted to trigger a clause included in his current deal.

Halifax will now be able to secure a reasonable fee for Debrah in the upcoming transfer window thanks to this particular development.

A Patreon report from The Sun journalist Alan Nixon yesterday suggested that Huddersfield were considering making a move for the 21-year-old.

However, with Halifax now opting to extend Debrah’s stay at The Shay, the Terriers may need to switch their attention to other targets if they are unwilling to splash the cash on the defender.

Before sealing a move to Halifax last year, Debrah featured at youth level for Millwall’s academy.

During the 2021/22 campaign, the defender helped his side qualify for the National League play-offs by featuring on 24 occasions at this level in the regular season.

Halifax went on to suffer a defeat at the hands of Chesterfield in the quarter-finals of this aforementioned competition last month and thus will be playing non-league football again later this year.

Who scored the goal that earned Huddersfield Town a place in the play-off final this season?

The Verdict

Whereas it is important to note that Debrah could still potentially be a target for Huddersfield despite the fact that his deal at Halifax has been extended, Carlos Corberan has recently bolstered his options at centre-back.

Earlier today, the Terriers announced that they had secured the services of Will Boyle on a two-year contract.

While Boyle has made 180 appearances in the Football League during his career, Debrah has yet to feature at this level and thus signing him would be somewhat of a risk.

Therefore, unless Corberan views Debrah as a long-term project, he ought to focus on securing the services of other potential targets in the coming months following Halifax’s decision to trigger a contract option.
