Slavisa Jokanovic is set to be interviewed for the vacant managerial role at Middlesbrough, according to a reliable journalist.

Keith Downie, a journalist for Sky Sports News, delivered the update on social media, also confirming that Jonathan Woodgate is still in contention for the role.

Middlesbrough have been looking for a new manager since last week, after the club announced their decision to part company with Tony Pulis, after he failed to guide the club to promotion to the Premier League this season.

Boro finished seventh in the Championship table, one point outside the play-off places, having spent most of the season in the top six.

Jokanovic has won promotion to the Premier League twice in his career, guiding Watford to automatic promotion in 2015 and winning the play-offs with Fulham last season.

Woodgate is also under consideration for the role, having impress in his role as a first-team coach at the Riverside Stadium.

The Verdict:

This would be an excellent appointment for Middlesbrough.

Jokanovic is a vastly experienced manager and knows exactly what it takes to win promotion from the Championship, having done it twice in his career with Watford and Fulham.

He would be a much better option than Woodgate, as he currently has no experience of managing in the Championship.
