AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper Matthew Cox is set to be involved for the club in their pre-season friendly with Kingstonian tomorrow night, amidst transfer links to Brentford, with the news being confirmed on the third tier club's official website.

As recently reported by Football Insider, the Bees are said to have agreed a deal with the Dons for the signing of the highly rated young shot stopper, with a medical scheduled to take place today.

The West London side are said to have fought off competition from Aston Villa and four other Premier League sides to sign the teenager, with Brentford having submitted their bid for the player last Thursday.

Cox is yet to have made a first team appearance for Wimbledon since progressing through their academy system but is regarded as one of the brightest young goalkeepers in the country.

Having been named in the squad for tomorrow night's game against Kingstonian, the shot stopper may well have one final chance to bid farewell to the club's supporters before completing his move to the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Verdict

I have been lucky enough to see Cox in action for the Dons in the FA Youth Cup last season and I can honestly say that he has all the attributes to go to the very top of the game.

His distribution is superb and he is capable of commanding his area to great effect, which are sure to be traits that Brentford have identified.

He will leave Wimbledon with everyone's best wishes and I'm sure the fee that will be received for his services from the Bees will provide a welcome boost to the club coffers moving forwards.

Tomorrow may well be a chance to say goodbye before he completes his move to the Premier League and many will be eager to see how he develops further down the line with his new club.
