Pep Guardiola will step up his pursuit of long-term target Jack Clarke in January, with the Leeds United youngster looking set to be at the centre of a transfer story just months after making his debut.

Leeds’ academy product has impressed at various youth levels over the years and is now pushing for his first start in the Championship after a string of impressive cameos under Marcelo Bielsa.

That impact has alerted Manchester City to Clarke, with the Sun reporting that Guardiola is ready to make his move for the 18-year-old when the transfer window reopens next month.

Clarke has made five substitute appearances so far this season for Leeds, stepping off the bench at half-time in the Whites’ last two Championship fixtures.

On Saturday, the direct winger notched his first assist in senior football, clinically squaring for Pablo Hernandez to secure a 1-0 victory for Leeds at Sheffield United.

Leeds are stable in the fact that Clarke has a long-term contract behind him, with the teenager signing a deal until June 2021 only last November on the day of his 17th birthday.

The Verdict

Clarke is one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Leeds’ academy in recent seasons and to lose him to Man City would be a serious blow for the Whites.

Bielsa has taken a real shine to the youngster and he’s got a big role to play as Leeds push for promotion in 2019.

Whilst first-team football is attractive at Elland Road, the opportunity to play under a manager like Guardiola for the Premier League Champions could appeal to the player.
