The Ibai Gomez to Leeds United rumour is not going anywhere fast and it seems as though we've been given another update on the story today.

The Alaves man is certainly the sort of player Whites fans would like to see at the club with him packing the same kind of classy punch that the likes of Pablo Hernandez and Samuel Saiz possess.

However, there is a battle for his signature going on at the moment with the likes of Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao taking a closer look at him among others.

Indeed, according to AS - via Sport Witness - the Whites remain in the chase which they have labelled a 'soap opera' with his contract at Alaves coming to an end.

Plenty of clubs are looking at him, then, whilst it is not out of the realms of possibility that he is going to sign a new deal with his current side.

With this transfer update in mind, then, we're taking a look at why Leeds must beat the Spanish sides back and get him to Elland Road...

First of all, he'd add another layer of guile and class to an already tricky and technically gifted forward line.

The likes of Pablo Hernandez and Samuel Saiz - on form - can take teams apart and Gomez would fit into that approach well.

He'd definitely be tough to handle in the Championship.

The attacker knows Marcelo Bielsa and that should be another reason why the Whites go for him.

Bielsa has brought his approach to English football and many of his players have responded well.

Now getting in someone well versed in his methods this January could be the final piece of the jigsaw.

This is Leeds United we're talking about after all and it seems as though they have started to remember that.

Andrea Radrizzani has restored a bit of the club's clout by going for ambitious names.

Beating the likes of Athletic and Real Sociedad - established premier Spanish sides - would be a proper statement.
