According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are interested in Leicester City defender Harry Maguire and that could lead to a real boost for Hull City.

The report says that City are considering the Foxes' defender as a replacement for Vincent Kompany but signing him could lead to a potential world-record fee for a defender being paid.

That in mind, then, the Hull Daily Mail has revealed that if that did happen the Tigers would be quids in.

For example, if City equalled the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk, that would see Leicester having to pay Hull £8.7m as part of the agreement the two sides made when Maguire left the KCOM.

It's a shrewd bit of foresight on behalf of the Tigers if they do get some of Manchester City's money via this deal and it would help them as they look to build on a decent 18/19 campaign.

The Verdict

Maguire is a top defender and that was clear from his days at Hull.

The Tigers knew that they would eventually have to get rid of him but also knew that he could go right to the top, hence the reason this clause was apparently put in when they dealt with Leicester.

This summer, then, they might be able to really cash in without doing any work.
