Aston Villa boss Dean Smith hasn’t had the best of starts to life in charge of his boyhood club – but a new signing could be the catalyst for a change in fortunes for his side.
Perhaps, then, that man should be Tom Heaton – a man who has fallen out of favour at Premier League club Burnley.
The 32-year-old has had a lengthy spell on the sidelines but on his return from injury, he has been kept out of the side due to the good form shown by Joe Hart and Nick Pope, who have certainly taken their chance in the side.
Heaton will be keen to recapture the sort of form that saw him called up to the England team, and he will be hoping to get some regular game time under his belt in the near future.
Dean Smith is likely to be in the market for a new goalkeeper, with current first-choice keeper, Orjan Nyland, struggling to adapt to life in the Championship.
Nyland has only kept three clean sheets this season and Heaton will certainly feel that he could improve that record at Villa Park this season.
