Norwich City are reportedly looking for a fee in the region of £25million for midfielder Todd Cantwell according to journalist Alan Nixon.

It has been well-documented that Leeds United were interested in signing the 22-year-old, who caught the eye with a number of strong performances for the Canaries last season, when they were playing their football in the Premier League.

But Cantwell's efforts weren't quite enough, as Norwich were relegated back into the Championship after a brief spell in the top-flight under the management of Daniel Farke.

You would have imagined that a move to Elland Road could have been tempting for the midfielder as well, with Marcelo Bielsa's side currently sat eighth in the Premier League table after a strong start to this year's league campaign.

But Norwich are seemingly keen to keep hold of Cantwell, and won't be forced into cashing-in on him on the cheap before the summer transfer window reaches a conclusion on Friday evening.

Norwich return to league action this weekend, when they take on Rotherham United at the New York Stadium, in a match they'll be expected to pick up three points from, as they look to strengthen the race for promotion in the Championship.

The Verdict:

I'd imagine this will price Leeds out of a move for Cantwell.

I do think he'd add something to their team, and would provide Marcelo Bielsa with the strength in depth that he needs in attacking areas of his squad, but for £25million, you have to question whether it would be worth it from a Leeds perspective.

There could be better, and cheaper options out there for Leeds before Deadline Day, and it would be a slightly risky move if they were to sign Cantwell for this sizeable fee, as there would be no guarantee that he'd start regularly for the Whites.

I think Leeds should look elsewhere now that Norwich's stance on Cantwell has been revealed.
