Swansea City could be set for a considerable boost with the news they are ready to offer Daniel James an improved deal.

The BBC is reporting that the 21-year-old is set to be handed enhanced terms in a bid to keep the winger at the Liberty Stadium.

James is contracted to the club until the summer of 2020, but amid a collapsed January move to Leeds United, the Championship club are hoping a new deal will safeguard the wide man’s future.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side had been on the verge of agreeing on a deal for James who spend almost the entirety of deadline day at Elland Road ahead of a proposed move to the promotion chasers.

Oliver McBurnie agreed to improved terms last summer and the BBC are reporting that they want to offer James a similar package.

This comes after the winger’s memorable FA Cup goal against Brentford in the fifth-round win last weekend, running the length of the pitch to net the Swans’ second of the game.

And the 21-year-old has previously indicated he would be open to a new deal.

The verdict

This is sensational news for Swansea fans who could have been forgiven for thinking they would lose their immensely talented youngster to Leeds last month.

But it now turns out that not only did he stay at the club but he is set for an improved deal to ward off any summer interest in the attacker.

I feel Swansea rely a lot on the Wales international and that keeping at the club is a positive for them going forward.

Once the deal is signed, then it comes down to the club trying to keep hold of him in the summer.
