Sheffield Wednesday are still working hard on a deal to sign Marvin Johnson, according to reports from the Sheffield Star.

The Owls have enjoyed a really busy summer in the transfer market after bringing in no less than nine new signings ahead of the start of their campaign in League One.

Reports emerged earlier this week suggesting that a deal for the winger was close to being done, however it seems that this isn't the case with the Sheffield Star saying that it remains to be seen 'when or if' the deal will be done.

They wrote: "The club are still working hard on getting a deal done with regards to signing free agent, Marvin Johnson, although only time will tell if/when his move to Hillsborough gets finalised.

"He would become Wednesday’s 10th senior signing of the summer if it were to get completed in the next day or so."

The 30-year-old has been a free agent since leaving previous club Middlesbrough at the end of last season.

Johnson was a key man for Neil Warnock's side having achieved 10 goal involvements in 43 appearances for the club last term as the Teessiders secured a top 10 finish in the Championship.

A left-winger by trade, the Owls will no doubt be hoping that an agreement can reached before long to bring the player onboard.

The verdict

This would be a great signing if Sheffield Wednesday can pull it off.

Marvin Johnson is a player who arguably should still be playing in the Championship after being really impressive for Middlesbrough in recent years.

The 30-year-old can play on the left wing or at left-back and that versatility is something that could be a real boost for Darren Moore.

It's a bit of a concern that a deal hasn't yet been agreed and for fans the hope is that this one can get wrapped up shortly.
