Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi is set to undergo scans today after sustaining another hamstring problem in midweek, according to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 30-year-old was substituted in the first half after limping off in Leeds' development squad's 3-2 win over Southampton on Monday night, after picking up yet another hamstring niggle.

The Swiss defender has been out of first-team action since the end of October, where he picked up the same hamstring problem in Leeds' 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at Elland Road, with the right-back making just eight appearances for Leeds this term.

And news has now emerged that Berardi is set to undergo scans today, leaving him doubtful for the Whites' trip to Rotherham United this weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa already has key defender Pontus Jansson unavailable for the trip to the New York Stadium, having been sent off for picking up a second yellow card in Leeds' 2-1 defeat to Stoke City last weekend.

The Whites currently sit one point clear at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table, despite picking up just one win in their last four league games.

The Verdict

This is yet another frustrating blow for Leeds, who have seemingly run over a black cat this season in terms of their luck with injuries.

Having Berardi back would have been a massive boost. Leeds have been short in defensive reinforcements recently, and he can play as a right-back or centre-half if needs be.

Having Jansson unavailable was already a blow, but Leeds will be praying that the scans go well.
