According to the Burnley Express, clubs will have to pay a further £5million for West Bromwich Albion forward Jay Rodriguez after 12 months, meaning that he would cost a total of £10million this summer.

The 29-year-old was an influential player for the Baggies last season, scoring 22 goals and producing six assists in all competitions, as Albion missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

After failing to win promotion back to the top-flight at the first time of asking, the Daily Telegraph revealed that the forward would cost only £5million this summer, due to a release clause that was inserted in his contract last season.

Leicester City, Burnley, AFC Bournemouth and Sheffield United have all been linked with the striker's signature, as each side looks to secure a bargain deal for the 29-year-old.

Now, the Burnley Express claims that clubs will have to pay a further £5million for Rodriguez after 12 months, providing that a deal is done by the middle of July.

West Brom will be looking to keep hold of their star-man, with Dwight Gayle looking unlikely to return to the Hawthorns this summer due to high wage demands.

The Verdict

£10million would still be an absolute bargain for a player of Rodriguez' quality up top.

I would personally say that he is too good for the Championship anyway, and he's definitely bottom-half Premier League level in my view.

A move to somewhere like Sheffield United could be a smart choice for the striker, as he is likely to be a regular at Bramall Lane, and he will know all about Chris Wilder's style of play having played against the Blades last term.
