There could be some bad news for Nottingham Forest on the transfer front with news coming out of a potential target’s club.

Wigan Athletic are currently in dialogue with winger Gavin Massey over a new deal with the club.

Executive chairman Darren Royle has told Wigan Today that they are involved in ‘active’ talks over the winger’s future.

The 26-year-old is set to be out of contract in the summer and has been impressive this term for the struggling Latics.

Royle’s update comes a day or so after it was reported that Queens Park Rangers and Nottingham Forest have been keeping tabs on the soon-to-be free agent, should he leave the DW Stadium.

Massey has three goals and one assist from 14 appearances this term for a Wigan side hovering above the relegation zone by three points.

Having missed most of the campaign through injury, the Latics are hopeful they can resolve his future and agree to terms on a new deal.

On the matter, Royal told Wigan Today: “Gavin’s another active one.

“He’s obviously a great guy, and someone we greatly value and want to keep at the club.”

The verdict

This could be bad news for Forest who were reportedly interested in the winger – there is every chance they’d have snapped him up over QPR, but now with talks ongoing at Wigan, it seems he could remain at the Lancashire club.

Having been out through injury, it could be seen as him signing as they aided his recovery or that he is simply happy in the north-west.

But the news emerging from the Latics is not great news for Forest who would have been hoping to snap up the 26-year-old in the summer.
