Neil Warnock has held talks with ‘four or five potential targets’ as he looks to step up Middlesbrough’s transfer business, according to the Northern Echo.
The Teessiders are gearing up for a very busy summer indeed after allowing a number of key first team players to leave at the end of their contracts, including Britt Assombalonga, Ashley Fletcher, Jordan Archer, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Marvin Johnson.
That means that a squad overhaul could be on the cards with some key positions being a priority.
Joe Lumley has already joined the club from Queens Park Rangers as Warnock looks to solve his goalkeeping woes, but there’s going to be plenty more positions that are being targeted.
The Northern Echo claim that Middlesbrough are looking to sign three new forwards this summer, as well as two midfielders to strengthen their options.
Numerous players have been linked with a move to the Riverside Stadium in recent weeks with Rotherham United’s Michael Smith and Cardiff City’ Junior Hoilett two of the players name-checked in the report.
It’s also claimed that those being targeted will ‘already have experience of English football, preferably in the Championship’.
21 things every Middlesbrough fan should know about their club, so can you score 100% on this?
It’s going to be very interesting to see what business Middlesbrough do this summer.
After losing so many players it’s clear that the club are in desperate need of reinforcements and that means that signing quality and quantity is a real priority.
Rumours will continue to circle until players started heading through the doors at the Riverside Stadium, but based on some of the names being linked with the club, I think that fans should be encouraged.
If they can get the majority of their business done before the start of pre-season then I think that the club will be very well placed to succeed this term,
