Another League One club have shown interest in Michael Hector, whose potential return to Sheffield Wednesday is no closer to happening, according to The Sheffield Star.

Hector enjoyed an excellent campaign on loan with Wednesday during the 2018/19 season, when he won the club's Player of the Year.

The centre back subsequently joined Fulham, but is now a free agent after being released by The Cottagers last summer.

It was then reported earlier this month, that Hector was on trial with Sheffield Wednesday, with the view to a potential return to Hillsborough.

However, updates last week suggested that the trial had been put on hold, with no suggestion of any agreement between the player and club being imminent.

According to this latest update, Hector has yet to resume his trial with Wednesday, with no sign of any deal to bring him back to the club being any closer.

Meanwhile, it is thought that one of the Owls' League One rivals, have themselves now expressed an interest in Hector, meaning the Yorkshire club may face competition if they revisit a deal for the centre back.

The Verdict

This could be one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks you feel.

Given Hector is a free agent, he does not need to be signed before the transfer window closes tonight, so Wednesday would ordinarily have more time to consider their options here.

However, that appears to have been complicated somewhat, by the emergence of another interested League One club, which may give Wednesday less time to make that decision on Hector, if they are to avoid being left behind in the race for his services.

Even so, the loan addition of Aden Flint has eased their need for central defensive reinforcement somewhat, and that will be further enhanced if they turn their interest in Celtic's Stephen Welsh into a deal, which could have a big say on their stance over Hector after deadline day.
