Blackpool's move for Shamrock Rovers' Andy Lyons is off after the Irish side suffered another defensive injury.

The Championship outfit had made two bids to land the full-back, the latter of which was around £200,000, and whilst an agreement wasn't reached, Lyons had finalised personal terms with the Seasiders and there was an expectation that the transfer would get done.

However, Lancashire Live have revealed now that the move is off, with Rovers defender Pico Lopes suffering a serious Achilles problem which has left the side very short in defence as they play in Europe and chase the title domestically.

Therefore, they are not willing to sanction a move for Lyons right now, whilst the update states that Michael Appleton is hoping to bring in a full-back swiftly, which means they will look elsewhere.

Bringing in defensive reinforcements is a priority for the new Blackpool chief, as Callum Connolly is having to play out of position at the moment.

Appleton's men begin their Championship season on Saturday when they welcome Reading to Bloomfield Road.

The verdict

This is a real blow for Blackpool as they really do need to get deals sorted quickly with the new season starting in less than a week.

As well as that, fans have seen the club miss out on a few transfers, so there will be a frustration building that you don't want before a ball has been kicked.

This will also be a blow for Lyons too, who has missed the chance to get a move to England in the Championship, but these things happen and it will be interesting to see if he gets another move next month.
