Gregor MacGregor has taken to Twitter today to reveal that Bristol City will not be topping up the pay of furloughed staff.

The current situation means that football clubs are having to take decisions to ensure their financial viability remains intact.

For City, then, a number of staff have been put on the government's furlough scheme, which has been used by thousands of businesses up and down the country.

It sees the government pay 80% of wages up to £2,500 a month and a number of staff at the Robins have been placed on that, though the club is not going to make up the remaining 20% - effectively leaving staff with 20% less in terms of income during the current period:

The Verdict

Whether the Robins have made the right decision or not is up for debate, with at least those on higher wages, like Ashton and Johnson, providing some form of solidarity by taking the same cut.

Even so, those on the furlough scheme are obviously going to on less compared to them and they'll be having to look at ways they can make ends meet during this most difficult of periods.
