Swansea City winger Daniel James is looking unlikely to sign a new deal with the Welsh club as the two parties are unable to come to an agreement over a release clause.

The Wales international has risen to prominence in the past few months after several eye-catching performances both for the Swans and the national team.

Therefore, the Championship side are desperate to tie the 21-year-old down to a long-term contract, with his current deal having just over a year left.

Yet, the BBC have explained how issues over a buyout clause are preventing talks advancing. The report claims that a £4m fee has been suggested by James' representatives.

If a new deal isn't signed by the time the window opens there is sure to be a lot of interest in the flying winger.

James was very close to joining Leeds in January, where he had actually passed a medical, but the move fell through late on.

As well as that, Manchester City have been linked with a move for the player recently.

The Verdict

It's not a surprise that James hasn't signed a new deal as there are going to be so many clubs after him in the summer and he could easily move to the Premier League.

Equally so, if they want a £4m fee in the contract then the club are going to have to move on because that's ridiculously low and they'd surely get more from selling him this summer.

Following this, it seems highly likely the talented youngster will leave this summer.
