Chuks Aneke has not rejected the offer of a new contract from Charlton Athletic, but is the subject of interest from elsewhere, a report from London News Online has revealed.

The Addicks confirmed in their released and retained list earlier last month that Aneke had been offered a new contract at The Valley, with his current deal with the club expiring this summer.

Aneke enjoyed an impressive 2020/21 campaign with Charlton, which saw him score 15 goals in 38 League One appearances for the club, seemingly attracting plenty of attention from elsewhere.

Reports from Team Talk have claimed that Aneke has rejected Charlton's offer of a new contract, amid interest from Middlesbrough, QPR, Coventry, Bristol City and Reading.

Now however, it appears as though Charlton's hopes of retaining Aneke's services may not be completely over just yet.

According to this latest update, Aneke has not rejected that offer from Charlton, meaning there is still a chance he will put pen to paper on a new deal with the Addicks.

The report does however, also state that there is indeed interest in the 27-year-old from other clubs, meaning there is still much to be decided with regards to the striker's future.

The Verdict

You do feel as though this will be a slight relief for those of a Charlton persuasion.

Aneke was an impressive figure for Charlton last season, and they will not want to lose his threat in front of goal if possible.

The fact therefore, that the striker has seemingly not rejected the club's offer of a new deal, means there is still some hope that they may be able to keep him for next season at least.

But with a number of other clubs interested, it seems there is still no guarantee they will be able to do that, meaning Charlton fans could be in for a nervy few months with regards to Aneke's future.
